It has recently been discovered that among Jose's many achievements is a brief career in film. While his tremendous modesty initially caused him to deny the reports, he has subsequently confirmed his appearance in the classic 80's teen movie "The Sure Thing".
In a statement issued earlier today, Jose is quoted as saying
"Rob (Reiner, the
movie's director) asked me to be in it after I helped him arrange
financing for the film. Originally, he wanted me for the role of John Cusack's buddy
Lance. He felt that I had the kind of animal magnetism that the role
required. Certainly the part requires a man with so much charisma
that an extraordinarily attractive women like Nicolette Sheridan can
be one of his cast offs."
Interestingly enough, Nicolette only got the part because Jose's suggestion of Bookgirl for the role didn't work out. According to Jose, "the producers and I couldn't come to an agreement on a price. Too bad too, since as her manager I would have gotten a pretty nice cut of that action. I made her my secretary after that. I'm just too nice a bear sometimes."
Jose went on to say, "as for me and the role of Lance, I eventually realized that I just didn't have the time to do a part that big. My career of service to my country was beginning to gather steam. Complicating matters further was the arrival of tax season during principal photography for the film. Rob really wanted me to be in the film though, so I agreed to do a brief cameo."
Jose's many fans can look for him approximately 27 minutes into the film. He appears first in the scene where John Cusack's character begins his cross country trip with show tune singing couple he found on the school ride board. Actress Lisa Jane Persky is holding Jose tightly. A few minutes later, he can briefly be seen in the scene at the hotel, this time with Ms. Persky lovingly holding him in bed.
"I do not
want to brag, but Lisa was all over me", said Jose when asked
about his experiences while shooting. "Tim (Robbins) and Lisa
are both fabulous actors and our chemistry was terrific. The script
only gives the lines though, so it's up to us actors to flesh out the
characters. Lisa tried to hide her personal attraction for me but I
picked up on it right away. I put that together with the show tunes
in the script and Tim's wacko left wing politics and everything fell
into place. I suggested that Tim's character was a closeted
homosexual. This allowed Lisa to use her personal attraction for me
in her performance as a sexually frustrated woman who is carrying out
a clandestine affair with me right under the nose of her gay boy
friend."
Jose offered no comment on any future movie roles that he has in the works at this time.
